StarBabies & Tots (Ages 6 months – 36 months)
The purpose of this course is to develop in very young children a high comfort level in the water while at the same time training parents in water safety and drowning prevention. This course does not teach children to become accomplished swimmers or survive in the water; it does provide a confidence building, fun, loving experience. Each lesson consists of thirty minutes of instruction and fifteen minutes of family fun swimming. One parent or caregiver must be in the water with each child. Swim diapers are required. Ratio of 1 instructor to 6 parent/child pairs. Minimum of 3 participants to offer class.
Starfish Preschool (Ages 3 – 5)
Designed to meet the needs of preschoolers, this course will develop a high comfort level in the water, a readiness to swim, and for those children who are developmentally ready, teach beginning swim skills. Children progress at their own pace in a small group setting. The preschool age groups are divided into two specific ability levels: Preschool 1 and Preschool 2. Ratio of 1 instructor for every 6 participants. Minimum of 3 participants to offer class.

Starfish Early Swim School (Ages 3 – 5)
Designed to meet the needs of preschoolers who have completed the Preschool 1 and Preschool 2 competencies, but aren't quite old enough to go into our swim school classes! This course will begin teaching and developing more advanced swim skills that focus more on our Yellow and Blue/Green swim school competencies for our younger aged children. Children progress at their own pace in a small group setting. Once the children complete this level they can advance to one of our Stroke Schools! Ratio of 1 instructor for every 6 participants. Minimum of 3 particpants to offer class.
Starfish Swim School (Ages 6 and up)
Students work toward development of the five core swimming competencies and receive color level certificates for each achievement. The color levels are used to divide students into ability groups. Children progress at individual rates with the opportunity to learn the core swimming skills and progress to advanced strokes. Learning is self-paced but challenging. The 6 and up swim school age groups are divided into three specific ability levels: White/Red, Yellow, and Blue/Green. Ratio of 1 instructor to 6 participants. Minimum of 3 participants to offer class.

Tryouts:
Each swimmer must complete a tryout to be on the team. If you wish to tryout please arrive five minutes prior to the start of practice and you will be directed to one of our coaches. Once the tryout is complete the coach will evaluate them pased on their abilities and place them in the appropriate level based on our team standards. It is possible the coach might tell them what they may need to improve on to tryout again. If improvements need to be made we will happily give you information on private or group lessons to inhance the swimmers abilities!
Enrollment:
Once the swimmer has successfully passed tryouts they will be allowed to stay for the rest of that practice if they wish. This will give them a feel of how the practices will be from here on out and give the coaches a better chance to evaluate their abilities. You will then need to register for the team, all registrations must be done at Splash in the Boro during practice times only. You will be asked to complete a registration form, make the daily/monthly/yearly registration payment, as well as sign up for the teams USA Swimming registration and pay the enrollment fee for that as well. A welcome packet will be given to each new member to help explain the swim team a little better! You will need to pay the monthly registration each month your child attends swim team.
Attendance:
Swimmers are encouraged, but not required to attend all practices. If the swimmer has prior obligations that month or week they are more than welcome to still attend practice when available; simply just pay the $5 daily fee instead of the monthly fee. Saturday practice will sometimes be cancelled if there is a meet scheduled, due to low swimmer attendance.
What to Bring:
SBCPRD is not responsible for lost items. Each person is responsible for their own possessions. We suggest each swimmer bring a bag to place all of their belongings in to keep with them ON DECK at all times! A change of clothes is suggested for changing after practice. For each practice a swim suit and towel are required. Swim caps are available for sale behind the desk (we have Sharks swim caps as well as plain ones, specify which one you want). Goggles are extremely helpful to the swimmers; ask your coach for suggestions on which ones to get! Pull bouys, fins, and kickboards are all supplied by the facility, but some swimmers wish to have their own, again your coaches can help you on where to purchase these!
We will purchase new uniforms for the team at the beginning of each calendar year. Team suits are a requirement for attending meets. Goggles, warm up suits, and fins are an additional purchase that is optional
Swim Meets:
The team has scheduled swim meets throughout the year. It is not required that swimmers attend these, a sign up sheet posted for whomever choses to attend. Most of the meets require traveling and are possibly multiple days. There are additional fees for attending meets. USA Swimming memberships are REQUIRED for anyone attending a meet. Each event the swimmer is signed up for will have an event fee and swimmer surcharge. All meets set a limit on how many events a swimmer can enter per day and the coaches will decide on what events will be best for each individual swimmer. If parents or swimmers perfer certain events or a certain number of events, a note on the sign up sheet will need to be made.
Discipline:
The SBCS participants are expected to follow and adhere to all rules set forth by the staff. Positive reinforcement is the coaches primary approach. If the problem of discipline arises, the coaches will handle the situation promptly. Repeated misbehavior will not be tolerated. Good conduct is expected of swimmers in the pool area and at swim functions and events.
